RVing To Lollapalooza Music Festival 2023
Where: Grant Park, Chicago
When: August 3rd – August 6th
Headliners: Kendrick Lamar, Billie Eilish, Lana Del Rey, The 1975
With the skyscrapers of downtown Chicago lining Grant Park in the near distance, Lollapalooza is one of the rare music festivals that’s equal parts green and urban. And it’s coming up too— the festival begins on August 3rd!
This year’s headlining acts are an eclectic mix of rock legends, pop, RnB, hip hop, and more. As one of the largest music festivals in the world, Lollapalooza blends the above music genres and more to serve up a good time to the more than 400,000 people that attend it annually.
Plus, to keep everyone fed, Chow Town offers festival goers cuisine from all over the city thanks to its partnership with GrubHub. And this ain’t your average festival food either; some of Chicago’s most popular restaurants lend a hand with high quality food and beverages.
So with all of this excitement (and not to mention the aftershows), how do people experience Lollapalooza best?
RV Resorts vs Hotels For Lollapalooza
Tickets for the four day weekend at Lollapalooza cost up to $700; hotel rooms for one of the busiest weekends in Chicago start around $200 per night. Some range all the way up to $1,500 for the weekend.
RV resorts, on the other hand? Between $40-$60 a night.
Camping is an integral part of any music festival (IYKYK). That’s why we at RVnGO have broken down the ins and outs of RVing to Lollapalooza below.

RVing To Lollapalooza
Is There Onsite Camping At Lollapalooza?
Unlike other major music festivals, there are no campgrounds of any kind at Lollapalooza. Yes, that means no tent or car camping either.
That being said, there are a number of RV resorts just outside of Chicago that are within driving distance to the festival grounds.
Offsite Camping At Lollapalooza
Despite there being no official campgrounds at Lollapalooza, that doesn’t mean that there’s no incredible camping experience to be had. And what’s best is that you don’t have to travel far at all to get it.
Chicago McCormick Place Marshaling Yard
If you’re looking to stay within the city itself, Chicago McCormick Place Marshaling Yard is your absolute best bet. Just eight minutes from Grant Park, McCormick Place is a grand parking lot right on the water of Monroe Harbor where many RVs congregate during Lollapalooza.
Although it’s urban camping in the most basic sense, the location is unbeatable for access to everything that Chicago has to offer. Because it’s connected directly to Grant Park by a waterfront walking trail, you’ll hardly need to drive at all during your trip! Chicago’s amazing downtown and the concert itself are all right at your doorstep.
Camp Bullfrog Lake
The second closest RV resort to Grant Park is Camp Bullfrog Lake. Only a half hour’s drive away, the campgrounds are an amazing way to experience both the city and the countryside outside of it.
Set upon lush green hills and woodland, Camp Bullfrog Lake has access to a trail system that covers over 40 miles of hiking and equestrian paths. The camp offers kayak rentals for its lake, as well as a fishing pier. Restrooms and showers are available, and the campgrounds are pet friendly.
Camp Reinberg
Approximately an hour away, Camp Reinberg is a smaller RV resort that tends to fill up quickly— so make sure you book your spot ASAP! Situated to the northwest of Chicago in Palatine, campsites are equipped with picnic tables and fire pits in an open air setting.
Conveniently located near a Metro station, Camp Reinberg is a popular option for commuting into the city without needing to drive in. For this reason, it’s an ideal spot for non-towable RV rentals.
The campgrounds are otherwise laidback and “no frills,” meaning they aren’t flush with higher end amenities. What they lack in these features they make up for in its tranquil atmosphere and plethora of hiking trails nearby.
Choosing Your RV Rental
Because we at RVnGO highly recommend saving money by camping off-site, you have freedom of choice in picking out the RV rental that best suits your needs. This way, you won’t have to skimp on size or amenities while RVing Lollapalooza
Non-Towable RVs
Class A RVs are the largest of the three main classes which makes them ideal for groups of 4-8 people. Typically, they come equipped with full size appliances and lots of cooking space in the kitchen, and full size tubs and/or sinks in the bathroom. The master bedroom is big enough to fit a king bed in most cases and still have room to navigate around.
Class B RVs are the smallest of the three main classes and typically accommodate two people. Most popular in this group are conversion or Sprinter vans that often feature a sleeping area and small kitchenette with a half bathroom. If you’re traveling solo or with one other person, or if it’s your first time driving an RV, Class Bs may be preferable.
Class C RVs are comparable to Class A’s in terms of features, minus the higher price tag. They come with full-size showers in the bathroom, queen beds in the master bedroom, and modest kitchens and dining areas. Class C RVs can also fit up to eight people depending on their layout. If you want an RV that comes with many of the standard options of a Class A but don’t need the full-size luxuries with your budget, consider a Class C.
Towable RVs
Travel trailers are among the most popular RV rentals on the market. They offer a wide range in sizes (from small pop-up campers to 40 foot mansions on wheels) and their towing feature means that you won’t have to worry about driving an RV if it’s your first time. Travel trailers can be towed by any vehicle.
Fifth wheels are similar to travel trailers in that they need to be towed. The main difference is that unlike trailers, fifth wheels can only be towed by trucks due to the nature of their gooseneck design. In general, fifth wheels tend to be among the larger types of RVs on the market and are perfect for larger groups.
