With the recent announcement of Coachella’s 2023 lineup, the scramble to secure tickets and campsites is on. And the sooner you can, the better— because the campgrounds sell out quickly every year, so now is the time to reserve your spot, and your RV rental. Is There RV Camping Onsite At Coachella?
While Coachella doesn’t allow for most types of RVs to park onsite, campervans are the exception to the rule. The exact guidelines state that each site is 30’x10’, which is just big enough to fit a van comfortably. After that, you’re allowed to fit as many people as you want in your site.
Most campervans can sleep up to four people in two double mattresses, one in the van and one in the pop-up portion on top of the vehicle. For larger groups, you’ll need to bring tents with you to round out your campsite.
Campervan Parking and Camping at Coachella
Spots for campervan and car parking are given on a first come first serve basis, so you’ll want to arrive early to secure a good site. It costs $125 a night to park at the festival, and once you’re in, you can’t take your campervan or car in and out of the campgrounds.
There are a number of rules that your campervan must strictly adhere to if it’s going to stay onsite. Make sure your campervan meets the following rules or risk it being turned away at the gate:
- Vehicles with running water (including toilets) are not allowed
- Pre-installed stove units in campervans are acceptable but may not be used as there is absolutely no cooking allowed onsite
- One vehicle only per site
- No motorcycles, ATVs, or other such units
Car check-ins begin at the Thursday before the festival at 9am or Friday-Sunday at 9am. Cars and campers may/will be searched upon arrival to ensure all safety regulations are being followed.
Portapotties are available at every parking lot, and free showers can be found in Lots 4B, 5B, 8 (ADA Only), and 10.

Offsite RV Camping Near Coachella Festival Grounds

Located 15 minutes away by car, the sites at Shadow Hills are spacious and overlook the mountains just behind it. With 121 campsites, it’s a midsized resort that still has plenty of the features that you’d expect from a Coachella Valley resort.
Amenities at Shadow Hills include a heated swimming pool and hot tub, clubhouse, multiple ponds, and dog runs for your furry friend.
Emerald Desert RV Resort
Offering the best of both worlds between high end amenities and proximity to the festival, Emerald Desert RV Resort has been a staple of the Coachella scene for years— and for good reason!
The centerpiece of the resort is its sparkling pool surrounded by palm trees and cabanas. From there, the grounds are beautifully landscaped and stretch to cover over 260 campsites. RV Campgrounds vs Hotels In Coachella Valley
When it comes to choosing between a hotel room/Airbnb or RVing to Coachella, RV rentals win hands down when it comes to price.
Hotel rooms in Indio and the surrounding cities that normally start at $200 the rest of the year skyrocket during Coachella Weekend. The current rates posted to travel sites like Kayak or Expedia indicate that it’s highly likely you won’t be able to rent a room for less than $1,000 a day during your trip.
Meanwhile, an RV rental in the same area will cost around $200 a night. Added with the cost of a campsite spot either onsite or off, you’re still looking at saving hundreds of dollars, if not thousands, for the same weekend. No matter how you slice it, RVing to Coachella is the better option to make the most of your money.
Plus, staying at an RV campground near or in the festival also gives you an atmosphere that hotels can’t match. Music festivals are all about experiencing the weekend together, shoulder to shoulder with everyone else the whole weekend. When you return to your campground, you’re still within that bubble of camaraderie that only exists in those moments. And hotels just can’t recreate that energy.
