RV Destinations Chokoloskee Island
Welcome to Chokoloskee Island! This fishing paradise in the Everglades has something for every outdoor enthusiast. Enjoy fishing in the many canals and bays that surround the 10,000 islands of the Everglades. For a truly unique experience, take a boat tour with Captain Craig’s Everglades Boat Tours out into the everglades for amazing dolphin watching, bird watching, shale island hopping and some of the best shells you will ever collect in your life.
Captain Craig is a native of the Everglades and shares his family history that flows through the waters that surround the many islands. Visit Ted Smallwood’s General Store, one of the most unique museums in Florida. There are spittoons and fly-swatters, wooden rocking chairs, canning machines, school supplies, wagon wheels, and animal skins.
There are plenty of camping options at one of the several RV parks on, and near, Chokoloskee Island. One of which is Chokoloskee Island Resort on Hamilton Lane. It’s a unique, quiet park with a major emphasis on fishing. All sites are grass areas that include electricity, sewer hookup, cable TV and water. Maximum length on most of the sites is 24-30 feet.
Be sure to stop off at HavAnnA Cafe for truly outstanding food; it is the most authentic Cuban cuisine this side of Cuba. Be sure to plan accordingly as the restaurant has limited hours and lines form early at this quaint eatery.
Chokoloskee Island has something for everyone. Though small in size, this island offers a rich history dating back to 1874, waters teeming with fish begging to be caught, and access to the Everglades National Park. This is where the hustle and bustle of tourist-laden Florida slips away to reveal a peak into old-world Florida.
