RV Destinations Great Smoky Mountain National Park’s Abrams Falls Trail

Abrams Falls is a waterfall located in Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The waterfall is situated in Cades Cove, an area that was once inhabited by the Cherokee Indian tribe. The waterfall gets its name from a man named Abrams who was one of the first settlers in Cades Cove. Abrams discovered the waterfall while hunting for game in the area.

The waterfall is located on Abrams Creek, which is a tributary of the Little Tennessee River. The waterfall is approximately 20 feet tall and has a large pool at the base that is popular for swimming in. Abrams Falls is a popular destination for hikers and photographers. The waterfall can be accessed via an easy hike from the Cades Cove Visitor Center. The hike is approximately 2 miles round trip and is considered to be moderately difficult.

Due to the popularity of the waterfall, it is important to plan your visit in advance and the drive through Cades Cove can be very slow going due to being a prime area for spotting wildlife. Be prepared to sit in traffic and arriving early to beat the crowds is recommended. The Cades Cove Visitor Center is open year-round and offers a variety of ranger-led programs that will help you learn more about the waterfall and the history of the area. It’s a beautiful hike through the woods to the falls and wearing a good sturdy hiking shoe is recommended to make the hike more enjoyable.
