RVers Guide to The Austin City Limits Music Festival

Who Is Ready For the Austin City Limits Music Festival?

This music festival is so large, that even the banner image doesn’t completely fit on this blog. If you are looking to experience the Austin City Limits Music Festival, but don’t want to be in a crowded tent or fighting for a parking spot this year, consider RVing. RVing has many benefits at ACL Fest, including more space, easy traveling in groups, and freedom from the crowds. In this blog post, we will discuss how you can go about renting an RV for your next festival!

The Austin City Limits Music Festival Lineup

The Austin City Limits Music Festival is happening October 1-3 & 8-10, 2021, at Zilker Park in Austin, Texas. Austin City Limits Music Festival is one of the most famous music festivals in the world.

Held every year since 2002, ACL Fest brings together people from all over the country to experience live music and enjoy Austin’s beautiful outdoors. With so much going on, it can be challenging to decide what you want to do during these two exciting weekends with over 125 performances on eight stages!

That’s why we’ve compiled some of the best places to go in your RV while you’re in town for ACL.

RVnGO recommends booking 3-6 months before any trip to assure you get the RV you want.

Incredible Day Trips Between The Weekends

Austin has incredible day trips you can drive to in your RV between the two weekends of the ACL Music Festival. Here are some highlights for you to check out around the area.

San Antonio

This incredible city offers some fantastic historical sites like The Alamo. Still, it also has plenty to do in modern times, with world-class restaurants by Chef John Besh (winner on Top Chef), Mexican food at Casa Rio on historic Olmos Drive, or just walking around downtown near La Villita where galleries feature local artists such as Dolores Huerta.

San Antonio is one of the country’s most popular tourism destinations, thanks to the allure of the nearby River Walk, a booming culinary scene, and the rich history of the Alamo.

Dripping Springs Texas

Despite a spike in tourists over the years, Dripping Springs has managed to retain its natural charm.

Take a stroll around downtown’s historic quarter to see some stunning architecture. After that, head north to see some of Hill Country’s most beautiful sights, including natural pools and parks.

Fredericksburg

Looking for a charming, small-town getaway that is filled with foodie and shopping stops? Look no further than Fredericksburg. In addition to lovely antique stores, Fredericksburg is set in Texas Hill Country wine territory so that you can visit some of Texas’ best wineries — don’t forget to start at Becker Vineyards.

Must-visit places in Austin

After visiting some of the places mentioned above, you may want to have some downtime back in Austin before the weekend festivities start up again. Here are some great places to check out while you’re in town.

Antone’s Record Store

Antone’s record store is a must-see for any music lover. The store has been in business since 1975 and is the oldest operating record shop in Austin.

Antone’s also hosts live performances of up-and-comers, regulars on the Texas blues circuit, and legends from rock & roll history such as Billy Joe Shaver or Taj Mahal (to name a few).

The Driskill

The Driskill is a historic hotel with a rich history and impeccable service. It is the oldest continuously operating hotel in Austin, Texas.

The Driskill features handmade bedding and fine linens on each of its 250 guest rooms, all furnished with custom-crafted furniture from local designers or antique pieces found at auction sites around the world.

Up the grand staircase in downtown Austin, you will find an authentic Texas bar that plays live music every day and has happy hour specials.

Mount Bonnell

Mount Bonnell is Austin’s most popular destination for the best views of downtown and Lake Austin.

Mount Bonnell is about a 30-minute drive from Downtown Austin. There’s plenty of parking on top or below at Mount Bonnell State Park, which offers trails and more space to explore nature away from crowds in other parts of Texas Hill Country parks.

Where To Park Your RV For The Austin City Limits Music Festival

ACL Fest does not offer onsite camping or RV parking due to its location in the heart of lively downtown Austin. However, there are many excellent campsites within a short distance of the park. Here are some of the best grounds for festival-goers.

Pecan Grove RV Park

Pecan Grove RV Park is just a few blocks away from the festival grounds and offers electric water hookups, sewer connections, and Wi-Fi.

Austin is one of the liveliest cities in Texas, but Pecan Grove RV Park offers peace from all the noise a couple of weeks a year – when it hosts attendees to Austin City Limits Music Festival.

Austin Lone Star RV Resort

Austin Lone Star RV Resort is located about 15-20 minutes from the festival and offers electricity, water hookups, sewage disposal, and Wi-Fi.

While it’s a little farther than other campgrounds on this list, Lone Star RV Resort has some of the best amenities around for RVs. They have bathroom facilities with showers (away from your campsite), laundry service, cable TV at every site, and an indoor heated pool in winter!

McKinney Falls State Park

McKinney Falls State Park campsites are also a little farther out, but they offer many perks for camping. Fishing in Town Lake and Barton Creek Greenbelt, hiking trails through the woods or around waterfalls, and an escape from all those loud music lovers!
