We have been stuck in the house for way too long. I have read the books on my shelve that I have been saying I would read for years now. I have binge watched enough TV shows and watched those movies that were on my list. I have gotten good at origami.

Enough already. Are you like me and are ready to get some sun light and fresh air? I am ready to escape the city. We can get out and still keep distance from others.

Here’s the problem: The car is too small to be cooped up with 3 small kids for a weekend road trip. Our tent got ripped to shreds when the kids played zombie apocalypse in the backyard last week. We want something different than just going to a hotel, which really isn’t different from just staying at home.

I know! We can rent an RV and go on a road trip. Now that is something I haven’t done since I was a kid. Just thinking about it brings back a lot of fun memories. There is plenty to do near and around the Dallas area.

What to Pack For The RV Road Trip

This is a great question. We all know that person who overpacks and then there is no room for souvenirs to bring back. OR that person who packs a bug out bag and is left wondering why they didn’t pack that ONE THING that…

Depending on where you are going you might want to fill your fresh water tank at least to half if not full. Be sure to check that your grey and black holding tanks are empty with about 5 gallons of fresh water in each along with some downy to help clean the tanks while driving.

Destinations to visit When Escaping Dallas

The great thing about Dallas is having so many nearby attractions. The region has a rich cultural and historical presence within the nation. We can go on a drive and see gorgeous natural beauty and get away from the city congestion. A few places to go are:

• Dinosaur Valley State Park to take advantage of the picnicking, hiking, fishing. 

• Then, there is Moody Gardens, an educational tourist spot that features three main pyramid attractions. The kids will love it. There are 3 Pyramids. One is a large aquarium. The next is a tropical rain forest and the third is dedicated to science. They even have a golf course, so I can bring my clubs and enjoy some time on the greens.

• Ooh. Another destination to hit will be Guadalupe Mountains National Park. Located in the Chihuahuan Desert, Guadalupe Mountains National Park is famous for the bright salt basin dunes and fossilized reef mountain-scapes.  

• We may even take in the visit to Turner Falls Park in Oklahoma. It’s the oldest park in Oklahoma and is worth a visit for its stunning scenery and family-friendly adventure fun. 

RV Parks Around Dallas For Your Road Trip

If you don’t want to venture too far out of the city, you have some options for RV parks. Check with them for their status of being open or closed.

• Goodluck RV Park is one to use if you want to be close to freeways.  

• If you love being around the water and plan on going fishing, then a great RV park is the Lakeside RV Park. It is only 20 minutes outside of Dallas.

• Another close RV Park option is Sandy Lake RV Park. It offers plenty of amenities and activities for the whole family. Check out the details on their website here. 

• For an RV Park that offers a very different environment, try Plantation Place,  Set on 40 acres and hosts a Mansion, a 7 acre lake and close proximity to great shopping, restaurants, movies, and other entertainment.

Scenic RV Friendly Locations Perfect For a Dallas Road Trip

• Bear Creek Nature Park offers plenty of hiking trails and fishing and even horseback riding or rock climbing.

• If ya like dinosaurs, definitely visit Dinosaur Valley State Park. In the land where dinosaurs once roamed, you’ll find the remains of large bones and trails. At this park, you can hike, camp, and learn the history of dinosaurs in America.

• Another great stop to smell the roses and enjoy nature is the Dallas Arboretum. The Botanical Gardens is the perfect place to decompress and relax in large fields of beautiful and scenic flowers and landscapes.

• Have you heard of Marfa? It is 520 mile Southwest of Dallas.

There have been reports of unexplainable lights in Marfa – more specifically, large glowing floating spheres appear on the outskirts of town, anywhere from five-15 miles Southeast of Marfa. These stories date back to 1957.

• You may want to visit Hamilton Pool and take in the 45-foot waterfall into the grotto.

The parking lot is small so be sure to get there early. There are no stores or anyway to buy drinks or snacks so make sure you pack plenty.

• Located near Fredericksburg, you will find Enchanted Rock. Technically, it’s a giant outcropping of a pink granite dome that was believed to have a spell cast on it by a Spanish conquistador. This spot attracts outdoor enthusiasts, hikers, star gazers, rock climbers, and campers.

• Another place off the beaten path is Gruene, New Braunfels. About 250 miles away, you will have plenty of reasons to visit here, from the floating river, the Gruene hall for drinks and two steppin’ music, fly fishing, and even wine tasting.

• Also, fairly close is Broken Bow. It is an incredible outdoor getaway only 3 hours from Dallas. You can ride horses, bring your ATVs. There is canoeing available and a great golf course. 

This is a spectacular place for an RV Road Trip.

• If you prefer the canyons, then drive the RV over to Palo Duro Canyon. You can hike, bike, drive, and even travel by horseback to explore these gorgeous canyons. There are over 30 miles of trails to keep you occupied.
