It’s almost that time of year again for one of the most popular racetracks in America.

And when it comes to making the most of your time at the track, RV camping at Talladega is by far the best way to experience everything that the week has to offer. Thankfully, RVing and Talladega go hand in hand; the track pulls out all the stops to ensure the cookout camaraderie never ends.

With only a couple of months left to plan your trip, RVnGO has put together a guide to make sure you get the best spot at the track. Plus, tips for how to spend your week in Talladega before the races.

RVing Talladega: Where To Camp

The self-proclaimed Biggest Party In NASCAR happens right at the track itself.

When it comes to budgets and amenities offered, Talladega has a wide range of options to accommodate just about everyone.

Infield RV Camping

The ultimate in Talladega camping is the opportunity to witness the iconic races from within the track itself. There are a number of different areas Infield for RVs to camp in, the cheapest of which starts at $400 for a spot. These areas include Superstretch RV, GEICO Grounds Yellow, Talladega Boulevard, and more.

For those looking to make the most of their Talladega weekend, and for whom money is no object, the big race can be viewed from the finish line itself at Finish Line Premium RV for $2600.

Not all of the Infield campgrounds come with sewer, power, water, or a combination of the three. For more information on the amenities included within specific campsites, click here and select Infield. It’s important to note that due to the limited amount of spots available inside the track, reservations should be made ASAP!

The entrance to Infield Camping is Tunnel 3, which opens the Wednesday before the race at 6:00 am for staging. Renewal guests have priority in picking spots at 9am— all other guests must wait until priority staging is done for a first come first serve designation.

Outside Camping

Just outside of the track is a combination of paved, gravel, and grass campgrounds. Free tent/RV parking is available on a first come first serve basis in the following areas: GEICO North Park (the only outside area with no designated quiet time), South Park, and West Park C.

All other Outside Camping sites range from $120-$335. Water hookups are available at Legend’s Lane and Winner’s Walk I/II. Otherwise, showers can be found at Geico South Park. For complimentary private showers and dressing rooms, look for spots in GEICO West Park A/B and Pecan Grove.

If you’d prefer to stay in a dry campground, Champion’s Corner has a strict zero alcohol policy.

Outside campgrounds are open for staging the Saturday morning before the race week on a first come first serve basis.

International Motorsports Hall Of Fame

Next to the speedway itself, the International Motorsports Hall of Fame is worth a visit for every racing fan. Within the building is a homage to those individuals who have contributed the most to the sport, whether they be drivers, developers, engineers, or owners. On display are racing vehicles, helmets, banners, trophies, and more.

Coosa River

About 20 minutes outside of Talladega center is the perfect way to spend a Spring day. The Alabama stretch of Coosa River is a popular spot for kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing. The rapids are class II, beginner’s level, so they’re great for families or people looking to get into the activity. Coosa River Adventures offers rental boats/paddles, transportation to launch sites, and life jackets. They recommend setting aside at least 3-4 hours for trips.

Bryant Vineyard

Alabama’s oldest continually operating vineyard is located squarely in Talladega. Bryant Vineyard is home to award winning Muscadine wines, made from a type of grape famous for its sweetness. In addition to their wines, the vineyard also allows guests to pick fruit and vegetables from its garden — even ghost chilli peppers, the hottest in the world!

When visiting, try samples of 2014 gold medalist Dixie Gold and the special Peach Wine.

Desoto Caverns

At the base of the mighty Appalachian Mountains, the Desoto Caverns are a geological wonder open for travellers to explore. The cave system is the biggest in Alabama, the first officially reported cave in US history, and the home of the largest growing collection of onyx-marble stalactites in the world. The site offers cavern tours as well as amusement park style rides and activities for children outside.
