Go RVing Around the Kings Canyon National Park

Kings Canyon National Park is an exciting place for RVers and campers. It lies on 404,000 acres. It has beautiful campgrounds that offer easy access to the towering wonders of Kings Canyon. If you want alone time away from the crowds or hike remote trails, you’ll find extraordinary camping opportunities.

It has a section called the Grant Grove area well-positioned for visiting the sequoias. Its elevation is around 6,500 feet, and the temperatures are much more relaxed than in the surrounding valleys, including the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The park is also connected to Sequoia National Park, allowing you to go RVing in an area full of activities.

Kings Canyon has only two roads for RVs. They lead to campgrounds where you can park and have your home near you after a day of adventures, like fishing or hiking. Every day is full of exciting activities in this large park. Nothing beats the feeling of frying your fresh fish in a campfire while viewing dark magnificent night skies. It is an ideal summer holiday spot; all you need is to check the nearest RV rental and get yourself a mobile home.

Best RVing Campgrounds at the King Canyon National Park

If you are looking for your next vacation destination, King Canyon National Park has the best campgrounds with Rv parks. However, note that you are not the only person planning an RV trip. Most of the grounds are booked in advance and may be booked out for months, especially during summer. Here are six highly rated rving camping grounds at the King Canyon that you should consider booking:

Azalea Campground

The Azalea campground has 110 campsites and is a beautiful spot for RVers. This campground spreads around a large boulder and is magnificently set below tall pines, including sequoias. Its location allows you to explore the giant park and cruise America in an RV.

The trees allow sufficient natural lighting, and you can sit on your chair outside during the day to enjoy some sunshine with many shady spots that enable you to enjoy some warmth without risking sunburns. There is also a walking trail leading to General Grant Tree, an enormous sequoia in the park. It is a must-see if you are camping at Azalea campground.

Some of the facilities you access at the Azalea campground include running water and flush toilets. While the campground can accommodate your RV, it doesn’t have dump stations or hook-ups. If you run out of groceries, you can shop at Grant Grove Village, where there is a restaurant and a grocery store.

Moraine Campground

Moraine campground is among the four campgrounds in the Cedar Grove area. It is a charming spot that gives you a beautiful view of the granite canyon walls. The site is 4600 feet high, which is lower than most campgrounds. The 121 sites at the Moraine campground are perfect for RVs, tents, and trailers.

You will find a campsite that can accommodate large trailers from an RV rental with spacious mobile homes for families. The sites are spaced and provide some sunshine and shade. Walking around feels excellent, thanks to the pine needles carpet the ground and the natural pine smell in the air.

While Moraine campground is an exciting place to park your RV and explore Kings Canyon National Park, it is only accessible between April and November. The road leading to the campground is impassable during the rest of the year.

Sheep Creek Campground

Sheep Creek Campground is in the Cedar Grove area. It has 111 sites with towering trees that hinder canyon walls view. The natural lighting around the camp is not much, but it is still a lovely place to go with your trailer from your preferred RV rental services. If you enjoy a natural forest setting, it is the campground to visit.

With the South Fork of the Kings River running through the campground, you can hear the loud gushing sounds as the water flows. Besides, you can walk down the gently sloppy terrain to glance at the river.

Like other campsites in King Canyon, this one is booked in advance and has flush toilets for RVers. Most people do not like this campsite because of the scarce vegetation on the ground, which means limited privacy. But you can get your mobile home from an RV rental for all your private businesses.

Hume Lake Campground

Camping on the shore of a water body gives you a beautiful view. The Hume Lake campground is located in the Sequoia National Forest and offers campers a broad range of activities such as kayaking, canoeing, and fishing.

The lake is located around 3.5 miles from Hume Lake Road but less than 10 miles from the Grant Grove Village. It is 5200 feet high and has many big pines, including Jeffrey and sequoias pines. After you park your rented RV at the Hume Lake campground, you can go on a hike through the Hume Lake trail circle. The 2.5 miles long trail provides you opportunities to walk or ride your bike as you breathe fresh air in the park.

If you want to a glimpse the lake, choose a camping site near the lake. All the 100 sites have flush toilets, a fire ring, and a picnic table. Try to make your reservations as early as six months before your vacation to enjoy your road trip to the maximum.

Princess Campground

Princess Campground is close to the Hume Lake Road Junction. It is in the Kings Canyon Scenic Byway and about six miles from the Grant Grove Village. The campground is on an isolated spot, making it quiet and ideal for anyone looking for an RV spot with privacy.

This campground is 5600 feet high and will give some excellent views. The pine trees around here are not large, but it has giant sequoias stumps. They are remnants of the long-gone logging days; they are so enormous that they dwarf tents and RVs.

If you want to go RVing, you can choose a site from the other 79 sites in Princess Campground. The 88 sites have vault toilets and fire rings, but 19 are for tent campers only. Like other campgrounds in Kings Canyon National Park, you have to make your reservations six months before your vacation.

Sunset Campground

Sunset camping ground is the biggest campground, with 157 sites that have to be booked in advance. It is the largest campground you can find in the King Canyon. If you are looking for a group site, Sunset campground has two that you have to reserve many months in advance.

Despite having so many camping sites, this campground is laid out correctly to give campers a comfortable stay without feeling lost. It is elevated up to 6500 feet and magnificently set under large pines, including sugar pines, sequoias, cedar, and fir. It is a beautiful destination for any road trip in America.
