How to Tow with a Tow Bar

Peter from the RV Geeks covers everything you’ll need to know to tow a flat car. The tow bar is the most common way to tow a car behind an RV and is the simplest to use. With a towbar its important to understand how much weight the towbar can handle before rigging your car up. Peter has a towbar that can handle much more weight than how heavy their car is. That way they can use their car for storage while on the road.

Peter and the RV Geeks use a newer style of towbar that connects to the RV and then hooks up with the car. This bar connects permanently to the RV which makes disconnecting the car to adventure easier than ever! With a tow bar you’ll need to understand the different parts that allow for flat towing. You’ll need a hitch receiver on the RV itself- most are built in. Another connector you’ll need is a baseplate on the car. This is not built in and has to work with the car model you are using. The last part of the tow bar is an umbilical cord. This cord hooks the RV breaking system to the car’s lighting system. That way people behind you are still able to see all the signals the RV would have!

RV Electricity with Tom and Peter

Charging and using electricity in an RV is very different from using it in a home. On today’s episode Tom from Mortons on the Move and Peter from the RV Geeks discuss electricity in an RV. Tom is an electrical engineer and knows the electrical system in and out!

In an RV there are 3 RV systems and by using an inverter you are able to convert the DC reserves into something you can use all the time. The electrical outlets needs the inverter in order to power everything plugged in. Without using an inverter you’ll have to be hooked up to electricity at a site or running a gas engine. With an inverter you can boondock longer and feel like you’re in a true sticks and brick house.
