RV Trips From Miami That Are Under 200 Miles

Everglades National Park

Travel Time and Distance: 41 minutes, 27 miles

One of the most famous national parks in the US is less than an hour’s drive from Miami. Everglades National Park spans over 1.5 million acres of incredibly biodiverse wetlands. However, to simply call the geography of the park ‘wetlands’ is almost a disservice to the range in ecological features. In addition to the iconic murky waters of the sawgrass marshes, the Everglades is also comprised of pine flatwoods and mangrove bays.

The Everglades are home to the elusive Florida panther, many, many alligators, and endangered species like the leatherback turtle and West Indian manatee. Guided tours offer glimpses of these incredible creatures in the safety of their natural habitats

There are a number of ways to experience all that the Everglades have to offer. The famous boat tours are not to be missed, but there are also many more lowkey options for navigating the vastness of the park, such as hiking and kayak/canoe trails.

Fort Lauderdale

Travel Time and Distance: 1 hour, 29 miles

An hour’s drive north of Miami brings you to the shores of Fort Lauderdale. Like Miami, Fort Lauderdale is known for its miles of stunning beachline and maze of canals that intersects the city. Despite having a more laidback atmosphere than Miami’s party scene, the city is immensely popular for its classic breezy, seaside Floridian town energy. If you’re looking for a happy medium between escaping the crowds of Miami without sacrificing your vacation’s upbeat temp, Fort Lauderdale is an excellent compromise.

A must-see stop in the city that’s well worth a day trip to Fort Lauderdale is the Bonnet House Museum & Gardens. Nestled between the canals of Coral Bay and Fort Lauderdale Beach, the Bonnet House has a dramatically styled Caribbean-plantation design. Lined with palm trees, the waterfront house is a striking estate with gardens that feature five different Floridian ecosystems. Both the house itself and the gardens are available for guided tours.

Travel Time and Distance: 2 hours, 113 miles

Further north along the coast from Fort Lauderdale is a true hidden in the rapidly expanding city of Port St. Lucie. The heart of the Treasure Coast, Port St. Lucie is imbued with a sense of classic American nostalgia in its Tradition Square of downtown. Pastel shops lined with palm trees and classic car shows give the town an Americana flavor mixed with Floridian architecture. The result is a dreamy, easygoing destination just about two hours away from Miami that’s quiet and quaint.

As part of the Treasure Coast, Port St. Lucie isn’t lacking for gorgeous beaches. Just like Fort Lauderdale, the coastline is made up of miles of perfect turquoise water and white sand to lay out on. Inland is the Savannas Preserve State Park, a miniature Everglades-like ecosystem to explore by foot or kayak.

Port St. Lucie is also known for its many golf courses. In particular, PGA Village – St. Lucie is ranked among the Top 75 Best Golf Resorts in the US!

Naples

Travel Time and Distance: 2.5 hours, 126 miles

Northwest of Miami on the western coast of Florida is the resort town of Naples. Known for its luxury hotels and high end shopping/fine dining, Naples is lush with things to do. In addition to its vibrant downtown scene, Naples is bordered by mangrove tunnels and marshes on its southern side, and a cluster of small islands along its coast. Manatees famously make their homes in these spots, which is why one of the most popular things to do in Naples is board a manatee sightseeing tour, of course!

Naples is also located close to the Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge. Renowned for its conservation efforts, visitors can hike through its miles of trails with binoculars or a camera to catch a glimpse of wildlife hidden there.

Key West

Travel Time and Distance: 3.5 hours, 165 miles

Clocking in at just under 200 miles away, the Florida Keys are best seen from the seat of your RV rental. Traveling over the seven mile bridge brings you to an archipelago revered for its otherworldly beauty. The sugary white sands of Key West’s beaches are famous the world over, and the crystal clear waters of Dry Tortugas National Park are a bucket list item for any beach lover. But more than its incredible ecosystems, the Florida Keys have an amazing culture contained within the islands that’s distinct to them.

Consider the Sunset Celebrations at Mallory Square, where hundreds of people gather every day to pause and take in the beauty of the horizon together. Or the entirely underwater John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park, only accessible by diving equipment. Or the countless marinas filled with casual waterfront restaurants and tiki torches that are equal parts Caribbean and Southern hospitality.

There’s something special about the Florida Keys that’s well worth the 3.5 hour drive. As a popular RV destination, you’ll have no shortage of amazing resorts to pick from and things to do for the entire family in the southernmost point of the continental US.
