Celebrate Earth Day with RVnGROW

Taking care of our environment is a responsibility every person has. This Earth Day, you should take some time to consider how to best care for the world and the people around you. At RVnGO, we strive to get family and people outdoors and appreciate the natural wonders the US has to offer. That is why we have started the RVnGROW initiative to help with reforestation. For each rental, we will contribute to One Tree Planted to have a single tree placed in the ground. Customers renting on RVnGO, you are also helping in a way to combat the effects of climate change and deforestation. When thinking about how to celebrate this Earth Day, consider these ways in which you can promote health and care for the world:

  • Plant something
  • Start recycling
  • Plan a group RV camping trip
  • Go for a bike ride or hike
  • Go vegetarian for the day

Plant A Native Tree or Plant

Deforestation is a problem that impacts ecosystems across the planet. However, some things can be done to help combat this issue. Reforestation efforts combat the loss of trees by planting new ones in damaged areas. You can donate to organizations like One Tree Planted or plant your own tree to help offset deforestation.

You do not need to plant a tree either. Consider looking up native plants in your area and planting some of those in your garden or pots. Native plants provide food and habitats for animals and insects native to an ecosystem. For example, certain butterflies rely on native host plants such as caterpillars. Without these plants, certain species of caterpillars cannot survive. Non-native plants can outcompete others and hurt the ecosystem. If you are thinking of planting something for Earth Day, then consider plants or trees native to your state.

Start Recycling

Recycling can be a hassle to get into, but it is a great way to help reduce waste and the creation of new plastic. As more information comes out about how far microplastic reaches the environment, reducing our use of plastic has become more important. Reducing, reusing, and recycling your plastics is a great way to celebrate Earth Day year-round.

Many cities may offer recycling services. If your city does recycle, then make sure to read up on how they want the recycling separated. Improperly separated plastics are sometimes removed. If your city does not offer recycling services, then look for a private recycling center instead. Recycling can seem troublesome at first, but you’ll find it’s easy to get the hang of!

Common Things to Recycle for Earth Day

There are plenty of recyclable things and many others that people think are recyclable but are not. For example, the thin plastic packaging you get with produce is often unrecyclable. You can find the basics of recycling by clicking the link here to the EPA.gov website. Make sure what you are placing in the recycling bin can be used before throwing it in. Some common items you can recycle include:

  • Envelopes/Junk mail
  • Most plastic bottles (with caps)
  • Paperback books
  • Unbroken glass
  • Aluminum cans
  • Aluminum foil
  • Batteries
  • Electronic waste

For batteries and electronic waste, you should never throw them into your normal recycling bin. Instead, you should take these items to recycling organizations that handle this type of waste. Depending on where you are within the US, there may be drop-off locations for electronic waste.

Plan a Group RV Trip and Contribute to RVnGROW

A great way to reduce gas usage and enjoy the wonders of the great outdoors is to take a group RV camping trip! By carpooling in an RV, you can get rid of the need to drive multiple vehicles. Take a trip to your nearest State or National Park and spend a night among the trees and stars. With RVnGO, you can find an RV rental nearby easily. Simply create an account and book your RV today. RVnGO has partnered with One Tree Planted to plant one tree for every rental transaction on our platform! With our new RVnGROW initiative, not only can you enjoy the outdoors and celebrate Earth Day, but you can also contribute to the planting of a tree to help with reforestation efforts.

Go For a Bike Ride or Hike

A great way to celebrate Earth Day is to avoid driving all day and get outdoors. If you have some groceries to pick up, consider biking or walking to the store (if it’s not too far of course). Reducing your gas usage help lower your carbon footprint and can end up being great for your health. Studies show many Americans do not engage in enough physical activity throughout their day. Celebrate Earth Day with RVnGO and take a long walk or bike ride instead of driving today. If you took our previous advice and are on a group RV trip, then take a nice hike along a nearby trail.

Go Vegetarian for the Day

Our diet plays an important role in our ecosystem. Eating lots of meat can not only be unhealthy but damaging to the environment. A great way to reduce your carbon footprint is by going vegan or vegetarian. However, you do not need to commit to changing your diet forever. Having days where you eat a vegetarian meal can be a great way to celebrate Earth Day. Produce farms output significantly fewer greenhouse gases compared to animal farms. Consider making some tasty vegan meals and eating low carbon footprint meals for the day!

Easy Vegetarian Dishes

Making a vegetarian dish for the day can be simple and fun for the whole family. Consider making something that can be quickly made without much skill. After all, no need to buy a dozen ingredients for one dish. Consider some of these simple vegetarian dishes you can cook for Earth Day:

  • Chickpea curry
  • Loaded baked potato with toppings
  • Black bean chili
  • Grilled cheese and tomato soup
  • Roasted vegetable pasta
