10 Rainy Day Activities For Campers

Mother Nature Called And She Wants To Play

Mother nature can spoil even the greatest laid plans for your RV trips as most likely you’ll encounter a rain day or two on your vacation. To keep yourself and the family entertained, you must find some innovative activities to wipe away those rainy day blues.
There are several simple rainy day activities for the next time dark skies swoop in over your RV so you can turn potentially gloomy days into fun new memories.
The fun doesn’t have to stop with a few raindrops, here are ten ways to spend your rainy days.

  1. Building food castles– There’s most likely a food you packed in abundance for the trip to use for building castles with. Marshmallows are a sure winner for a S’more tower complete with a licorice ladder. Sugar cubes stack nicely and even canned goods can be good for a fortress wall.
  2. Get wordy– Grab some word searches and crossword puzzles and start flexing your brain muscles. There are plenty of options online to print ahead of time or grab some from the gas station on the way up. Or there’s always sudoku for the more mathematically inclined.
  3. Make a movie night– Create a cinematic experience by getting creative with gourmet popcorn recipes like peanut butter caramel popcorn or using an herbed truffle butter over top. Hunker down for screen time and build a fort using some blankets across the couch and the dinette.
  4. Puddle hopping– No one said you had to stay inside. Get adventurous and play outdoors. Similar to a belly flop contest in the swimming pool, search for the biggest puddle and give everyone one jump to determine the best splash.
  5. Get in the water- You’re already going to be wet so why not go swimming in the rain? Often the water can be warmer than the weather outside so as long as it’s not torrential, swimming in the rain can be a unique experience. If you’ve got the gear and equipment, kayaking or canoeing on the water during light rain can be quite calming.
  6. Visit a local attraction– Rev up the RV and take a brief tour around for a local museum or historical site. Get to know what your destination city has to offer.
  7. Game time– A Monopoly game marathon may be just the ticket for keeping your mind off the rain and getting everyone involved. Classics like Pictionary and Scrabble are great options too along with a simple deck of playing cards.
  8. Put on a talent show- Discover each other’s unique abilities with a fun talent show. Spend some time practicing the performance during the day and then each take turns in the limelight. Maybe even discover a rising star!
  9. Write on– Maybe you haven’t captured all the memories from the road just yet and can spend the rainy day journaling the adventures so far. Jotting down things while they’re still fresh is a great way to record those special moments. Combine those trip logs for a unique RVing blog that shares stories from the road.
  10. Plan your next trip– What better time to brainstorm ideas for your next adventure? Set your next destination and use the opportunity to map out roads to travel and stopovers for sleep and meals. Get some extra research time into the activities you can do at your destination site.

A Few Rain Drops Won’t Stop Our Good Time.
