Election Results – Ultimate Break From The The News Cycle
Here Are A Few Great Spots To Get A Rest From News Cycle.
With a contentious election and news dominated by scandals and the pandemic, you might welcome a break. Remember: the truly important parts of life happen outside of politics. Family, friendship, love, adventure — those are the stuff of life! Now is an ideal time to escape from the divisiveness of the election results and the news cycle, and to explore the diversity and scenic beauty this country holds. Here are several outdoor options from across the nation for RV travel destinations.
Southern California: Stargazing in the Desert Sky
Whether you’re looking to get away from the noise pollution from the news reports or the light pollution from the city lights, Joshua Tree National Park will not disappoint. Nearly 800,000 acres in size and larger than the state of Rhode Island, the park provides visitors a variety of different areas to explore. Spanning the Mojave and Colorado deserts, Joshua Tree National Park features intriguing rock formations, more than 250 species of birds, several species of cactus, and, yes, joshua trees. Here you can enjoy spectacular sunsets, desert hikes, and rock climbing, as well as an unobstructed view of the starry night sky.
Pacific Northwest: Soaring Peaks, Roaring Shores
Oregon’s coastal region, nestled between the mountains of the Oregon Coast Range and the shores of the Pacific Ocean, offers a range of recreational activities, including camping, mountain biking, and fishing, as well as wineries, antique shops, and galleries along the way. Ecola State Park stretches across nine miles of coastline, and while whale watching peaks beginning mid-December, you might spot these mammoth creatures along the coast.
Texas: Unexpected Natural Beauty
Twenty-three miles west of Austin, Texas, you’ll find the Hamilton Pool Preserve. Part of the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve, this natural, jade green pool was formed thousands of years ago with the collapse of an underground river dome. The 232-acre protected natural habitat features a 50-foot waterfall. Though there is no camping at the Hamilton Pool Preserve, you can reserve a spot at either Arkansas Bend Park or Pace Bend Park, two of the Travis County parks.
Michigan: Plenty of the Picturesque
Visit America’s first national lakeshore, the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore on the banks of one of the Great Lakes, Lake Superior, named for the famous Pictured Rocks cliffs that span more than 15 miles from Sand Point to Spray Falls. The park, free and open year-round, has miles of freshwater beaches, acres of northern hardwood forests, and hundreds of miles of trails for hiking, walking, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling. If the winter cold has settled in by the time you visit, ice fishing is an option, and if hunting is your thing, deer hunting season officially opens mid-month.
Florida: Feel the Spirit
The Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park and Campground is truly a special destination in Northern Florida, whether you’re traveling solo or with friends and family (including those with four legs, including horses). Nestled in Live Oak, Florida, the 800-acre campground hugs three miles of the cypress tree-lined Suwannee River, perfect for canoeing, kayaking, swimming, or fresh water fishing. Hike, bike, or ride a golf cart along miles of trails, play a round or two of disc golf, or check out the colony of bats that make their home in the park’s bat house.
Be sure to schedule your stay for at least one weekend day, when tours to the Mother Tree allow visitors access to a truly unique treasure: a lovingly crafted, three-story treehouse built around a sprawling, 175-year-old live oak overlooking a bend of the river and featured on the DIY Network’s “Treehouse Guys.”

Northeast: From Water to Wine
A group of 11 long, narrow lakes that run roughly north to south, the Finger Lakes region in New York features a variety of spots to please both adults and children. Parents might prefer tours of wineries (this is New York’s largest wine-producing region) or a visit to one of the area’s many museums, while children will enjoy a stay at Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park. Another family-friendly option is Watkins Glen State Park, repeatedly voted one of the nation’s best state parks and home to an Olympic-sized natural pool and 19 waterfalls.
